r̄a1   [ra] adv. first, provisionally, at least (Bisl. festaem). Sentence-final discourse particle, marking an action (esp. an order) as provisional, or as the substitute of some other action; d'abord, en attendant (Bisl. festaem). Particule discursive finale d'énoncé, marquant un procès comme provisoire, ou comme substitut d'une autre action.

r̄a2   [ra] r̄aha. asp. [+ Adjective or Verb] Resultative clitic (?). Derives a resultative adjective from a verbal or an adjectival root; devenir, se faire tel ou tel. Morphème aspectuel précédant les équivalents de nos adjectifs, pour présenter le procès comme dynamique dans le temps.

Mo var̄i-a vivara r̄a koru. ‘He takes a dry reed. [a reed become dry]’. ‘Il prend un roseau sec.’

▷ Malgré le sens pluriel, l'accord se fait parfois au singulier. Despite the plural meaning, the agreement is sometimes singular.

r̄aju lap̈a   n. chief, important person, an authority over a community (Bisl. Bigman); chef, personnage important, homme doté de pouvoir dans la communauté (Bisl. Bigman).

Om poe-i-a o pa moli, om poe-i-a o pa r̄aju lap̈a? ‘Do you want to be a chief, do you want to be someone important?’ ‘Tu veux être un chef, tu veux être quelqu'un d'important?’

r̄am̈ar̄e   [ran̼are] n. spirit of a dead man; devil, ghost; esprit d'un mort, démon, diable, fantôme, ogre.

R̄ango   [raŋo] top. Tangoa, name of an island close to Araki, and close to southern coast of Santo; Tangoa, nom de l'île voisine d'Araki, proche de la côte sud de Santo. After several decades of marriages between the two islands, the language of Araki has been totally replaced by the language of Tangoa.
